the victims of the shooting in newtown, connecticut. what are your thoughts about this tragedy? >> you know, time magazine is calling it the massacre of innocence. that actually is a phrase from the first christmas where herod killed baby boys under two at christmas time and it is tragic that this is happening at christmas time. i think with the two sandies, sandy hook and sandy hurricane we really need the christmas spirit right now. the deeper the pain, the deeper the grief, the fewer the words. there are long-term things we need to deal with to prevent this from happening again but right now we need to console those who are grieving. as a pastor, i deal with grief every day of my life and i have discovered that grief is actually a good thing. it is the way we make transitions in the losses of life. jesus said blessed are those who mourn they shall be comforted. if we stuff our grief what i figured out is that it comes out sideways later on in some strange ways and so part of the healing process is actually dealing with the grief and the way we help people in grief is just be with them. y

familiar, it is the same weapon used in the shootings newtown connecticut. neither obtained their guns illegally. we're trying to figure out how to stop these massacres, one is far too many, and they seem to be a terrifyingly regular occurrence in our country. still, these horrific events shock us so deeply because they remain rare. and because the circumstances are each so specific, it is very difficult to government policy to prevent them. most of the policies we think about wouldn't have worked. the federal private sales loophole often called the gun show loophole should be closed. but there is no evidence the killers bought their guns at gun shows or through the loophole. background checks should be stricter, the guns used in western new york and connecticut were not registered in the names of the shooters. waiting periods make sense for gun buyers and particularly to prevent suicide. they would have had little effect on killers who did not purchase their guns through legitimate channels. the assault weapons rifle ban should never have been prevented to last. the ban was full of lo

across connecticut, rhode island, boston. we could see maybe one, maybe even two inches of rain, snow continues with cold air coming around. we are still watching more snow and then we get the great lakes involved and as well. dumping more snow in western new york. and by that time, new york city, you might see a few flurries. the worst of it is gone for you except the wind but now northern new england, parts of it, maine corks see a foot plus the snow coming through there. all of this, rain, the wind and snow, that will impact travel. as we head lou tonight some of the worst airports this evening will be around d.c. and as well as philadelphia and new york, numerous delays. hundreds of cancelations of pilots and usually -- about a would-hour delay is average around the new york city airports tonight. and even with the snow back on towards the west. now tomorrow, new york city is -- improving throughout the afternoon but morning pilots cog still be delayed and big-time delays continue there in boston and again, things will improve as we head towards friday and then we wait for a next

of snow in some areas, especially back into ohio, pennsylvania and new york state. granby, connecticut, picked up six inches before it changed over to rain. we saw winds gusting up near hurricane-force strength in brick, new jersey. 74-mile-per-hour wind gusts. most of the eastern seaboard did see gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour. this storm is still lingering across northern new england where winter storm warnings and advisories are still in effect. heaviest of the snow, though, is where they want it, up across the ski resorts through northern new york, up into vermont, new hampshire and eventually maine as well. it's the extreme northern tier of the country that could end up with more than two feet of snow. elsewhere in new england, we'll get another foot of snow in central and northern new england. rain will wind down later today and then tomorrow as we head into friday, it looks like things will finally improve. a little chilly, but the sunshine is back. temperatures tomorrow should top out in the mid to upper 30s. so improvements, they're slow to get here, but they'll still ge
